Yo soy tu amiiiiiiiigo fiel... the Pixarian xperience

You could smell the Brain juice in this room, last day :(
Last nite... :(

While I was at EA I got a call from Pixar offering me the chance to spend the summer training with them on their internship program! It was amazing news, but i had to make the hard decision to leave EA in the middle of production. This industry is very small and i didn't want to be that guy, plus i was having a great time at EA. It was a hard decision to make but i already said no to the Disney apprenticeship the year before because i was interning at EA helping out in Dante's Inferno already. I have always wanted to work and learn feature film animation, and Pixar is definitely a great place to do so :) .The summer was pretty surreal, so many people that I've i always admired all around me, everyday. I was a complete animation leech for the whole summer just suckiiiinggggg all that knowledge out of the brains of this masters in their craft, wow. I kept telling myself that i had time to sleep when i die, so cereal (yes from the 24 hour cereal bar, the 24 hour part came in handy) and love for the art form kept me going. The place itself is perfect to get anyone's creative jugos going, inspirational. My fellow interns were soooo talented (what am I doing there?! haha) so it was so interesting and challenging to see everyone come from such different animation backgrounds and styles all trying to learn the software, get the personalities and animation style of Woody, buzz and the rest of the Toy story characters. From Having lee Unkrich critique my shot with characters he knew so well...!(congrats on all the Oscars nominations btw) to Ed Catmull giving one of his supertalks to a small group of us, wow unforgettable summer.
P.S. i animated Woody
P.S.2 i animated Buzz
P.S. 3 i animated Luxo jr.
P.S. 4 and a couple of other ones :)
P.s.5 animation is love

I will be posting the work i did during the summer soon

Spacio Muerto 2

OK i graduated, went to sunny Venezuela to rest a bit, got some cosmic rays, some vitamin D, happiness, the whole she bang. Came back, and guess what? i got a great offer to go back to Electronic Arts :) ( i did my internship there the year before and worked on Dante's Inferno). I went back to EA's Visceral' team to work on Dead space 2 http://deadspace.ea.com/ which came out yesterday(Jan 25) its getting amazing reviews! http://www.destructoid.com/review-dead-space-2-192306.phtml. I got my first taste in Mocap this time(interesting... mocap is getting scary accurate) and of course some hand key horror awesomeness Dead Space styleee. It was great to see people again and as well as meeting some new amazing artists. The Dead space team really loved the project, and it shows, its always great to see everyone really pumped about a project. Oh man, EA is so cool(once again) great facilities, arcades everywhere, Futbol field(yes futbol), gym, great food, video club, people, etc etc. BTW i just saw the new Dead Space 2 action figure (its always pretty cool to see a character you animated in toy form).

Ukulele Trio

i submitted couple of pieces in the AAU spring show 2010, i got "best animation dialogue" with my "Ukulele Trio" piece, i got the same award with "Rudeboy" the year before! yes :) very cool recognition.

si va... aca stoy/im back

Hola hola, it's been a while since i last posted, so many great things have happened since then. So I'll pick up where I left off in my last post. I Graduated!!! yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, i got my Masters in character animation at the AAU, i almost thought i wasn't going be able to make it , since i was in the last month of my last semester and i had 50% (or more) animation to do for my thesis project. I Put my thesis project on hold to be able to focus on my demo reel, i was using Norman which allowed me to do what i really wanted to do in my shots( since i pretty much did the rigs for my short film, they sucked, therefore it was really hard to get what i wanted, (i know i know lame excuse). Anyways, it was my last semester and i was meeting with Guilherme Jacinto(super talented Brazilian Pixarian animator) once a week at Pixar for feedback. i mentioned to him that i was thinking about pushing my graduation day to one or two more semesters since it seemed impossible to get almost half of my short animated in a lil over a month (keep in my mind editing, rendering, post production as well). Guilherme convinced me i could get it done, so, with tons of sleep deprivation and a lot less social life outside Maya, what d u know, i got that #$%&* done ! :) I also had to put "on hold" in what would have been my last piece of animation with Norman as a student (i was very excited about it). I will post "shallow" (Short Film) later. Im thinking about submitting it in couple of Festivals, i might as well after all the hours i put on it :)

Spline away baby

So my time with EA came to a finish at the end of August. It was really hard to say goodbye to the team I had spent the summer with working on Dante's Inferno (good times!), but I knew that I needed to go back to school (my last semester!), focus on finishing up my thesis project and being able to graduate. I've had 3 weeks back in the labs working on my short film and trying to flesh out a new piece for my reel.

Summer tiiiime...the weather is easy

Hi guys haven't been able to write in the blog for awhile, but I wanted to share this crazy situation I had at the end of last semester. I was having a great end of the semester; I had won the best dialog test at the Academy of Art Spring Show (yes!). I had also just found out that I had landed an amazing internship with Electronic Arts aka. EA Games (in the recently baptized “Visceral Games” team, working in the upcoming “Dante’s Inferno”). So, although I had applied to other summer internships I went ahead and signed with EA, not knowing whether others would say yes. About a month later I found out that I was one of only 2 picked for an internship at Disney. I was so excited because working for Disney has always been my dream, but I had already signed a contract with EA and I had to honor that. I have to say that saying No to Disney was probably one of the hardest things I've ever done, because I've been working for exactly that opportunity forever. I started at EA six weeks ago and it's actually been 10x better than what I had imagined! It doesn’t feel like an internship at all, since I am actually doing production stuff. I'm working on some sick (and very “different” from what I have done before) pieces for the game and have met some great and very talented animators. Not to mention EA's studio is like a theme park and the entire work environment is so chill and fun all the time. It's been great!
